About Green Island Rod and Gun Club
Welcome to the Green Island Rod & Gun Club, we are centered around family and passing on the tradition of enjoying the outdoors and nature. We focus very much on getting children excited and engaged in the outdoors by hosting events to really peak their interest in the outdoors.
Our Founding

This organization was not always what it is today. As stories go: "Once upon a time," the Green Island
Rod & Gun Club, Inc., was composed of a mere handful of
sports-minded citizens whose sole aims were promotion of conservation, fellowship, sportsmanship, and the furtherance of good
will among all men.
These men banded together on August 26, 1939, and formed the
nucleus of the organization we have today. During its infancy
meetings were held in various rooms until, finally, in 1940, we
were incorporated and, with our membership ever increasing,
found a home of our own at 55 Paine Street in Green Island.
The war years were rather tough on the Club and its member-
ship, but the elder members kept things humming with all
sorts of social activities. When the veterans started returning
home, they found the Club intact and the Junior Club going full steam ahead. The older officers of the Club, having done
an excellent job, then decided to turn the running of the Club
over to new men.
In 1946, with its new officers, the membership started the
search for club grounds and soon decided on a plot of 115
acres; about a half mile from the Tomhannock Reservoir on
the road to Valley Falls. Since then, we have reforested about
two acres with pine seedlings and expect to continue this as
needed. Plans are moving ahead for a skeet field, rifle range,
rearing pond, and in September 1948, ground was broken for our
clubhouse.

Our meetings are on the first Monday of every month. They start at 7:00 pm and end at various times depending on what is going on at the Club around the meeting. Orientations for new members take place at 6:30 pm, and the meeting commences after the half-hour of orientations. Our meetings are a good way to find out what is going on in the club, including upcoming events, how to help prepare for them, what maintenance needs to be done, what new or ongoing projects are in the works, and what new ideas are being shared for the future of the club.

The Green Island Rod & Gun Club Inc. focuses on family first and foremost. We care for all of our members and their families and do our best to make sure they have a great time at the club. We also stay involved in our local community, for example by hosting "The Spirit of Giving" donations for families in need in the nearby school district, to provide presents for children would go without.
